( from wednesday 28.4. 2001 )
y_chat_diva: Hello!
y_chat_diva: We're gearing up for our chat with Lorenzo Lamas
y_chat_diva: Lorenzo joins us to talk about his syndicated series "The Immortal"
y_chat_diva: Lorenzo--- welcome!
lorenzo_lamas_live: Hey! Gang! What's up?
lorenzo_lamas_live: Are you watching The Immortal?
Marty2634: Hello Lorenzo, Describe what "The Immortal" is about and what role do you play?
lorenzo_lamas_live: I play a character who's name
is Rafael Kane. He's a 400 year old demon slayer whose quest began when demons
murdered his wife and stole his infant child.
mr_hyde_90210: Would you say that your show is a cross between Buffy
the Vampire Slayer, and Highlander?
lorenzo_lamas_live: I would say roughly that the
show has aspects of both. Humor ala Buffy. Immortality ala The Highlander.
lorenzo_lamas_live: But is a show being produced
in 2001.
lorenzo_lamas_live: With new effects and exotic
locations.
manolis_varnassinger: lorenzo where do you do the making of the show
and how long does it take to make one episode
lorenzo_lamas_live: We're filming our 2nd season
in Australia. And I'm hoping we take 7 days to film an episode this year, versus
6 days last year.
dr_badtooth: interesting, which network?
lorenzo_lamas_live: Syndication. It's ... check
your local listings. And if it's in the middle of the night, tape it. You won't
regret it.
dookiedude_is_i: Hello good evening mr lamas, i would like to know what
your ethnic orgin is and how tall you are
lorenzo_lamas_live: I was born in Santa Monica,
California. I'm half Norwegian and half Argentine. And I'm bigger than a bread
basket.
lorenzo_lamas_live: I'm 6'2".
ellyn723: your much hotter then the highlander
lorenzo_lamas_live: LOL!
lorenzo_lamas_live: That really sounds great, and the older I get, the
better it sounds!
bassaholic_13: hello lorenzo, what is the most exotic location you have
ever had to shoot in?
lorenzo_lamas_live: I would say Tel A vis, Israel.
But it was not a day at the beach. At 3pm, there were sirens going off and it
was a bomb scare for real. I stopped to ask a cop
how often this happens. And the cop said, "Oh, during the summer? Twice a day."
lorenzo_lamas_live: Hundreds of people running
for cover.
Marty2634: Hello Lorenzo, Do you do a lot of the "Stunts" in "The Immortal"
or any other projects you've worked on in the past?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I'm always, it seems, doing stunts.
lorenzo_lamas_live: And it's probably because I've been in the action
genre for a dozen years or so.
lorenzo_lamas_live: Sometimes I feel like a professional athlete. When
the season ends, I usually check into a hospital for some form of treatment.
Last year, I had the cartilage replaced in my left knee. But it works!
gothicgirl14240: you really a martial arts expert?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Well, in order to be an expert, you have to be proclaimed one by another source
besides yourself. But I've been practicing martial arts of different styles
for longer than most of you guys out there were on the planet .... for 20 years.
lorenzo_lamas_live: I choreograph the fighting sequences on my show.
Both Renegade and The Immortal.
sassyautumn: Are there any similarities between
Rafeal and Reno Raines
lorenzo_lamas_live:
They're both characters of conflict. Reno, perhaps, a little more serious. I'm
having a tendency lately of finding the humor in even dramatic scripts, and
The Immortal is my latest attempt to make the audience laugh.
lorenzo_lamas_live: There was a scene that I filmed in an episode last
year where this demon could only die from hearing disco music. And it was torturous
for him to listen to that music. And not only did I do the death dance, but
I did my best impression of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.
whuang100: I'm curious Mr. Lamas? What ever happened to your show Renegade?
I don't remember the show ever finishing the story line.
lorenzo_lamas_live:
The show was on for 5 seasons and it just went the way of ... you know ....
of television shows that have seen their day.
evilkelly12000: is renagade on tape??? and if so is the whole series
on it??
lorenzo_lamas_live:
There are 2, I believe, full-length motion picture Renegade movies. One that's
called Murderer's Row. And I don't recall what the other one is called. Yes
I do. Fighting Cage.
scolesrus: Lorenzo i just had to say i loved you in that show Renegade.
I swear to you I was hooked from the beginning but how has your life changed
throughout your career changes. HOws your wife and Kids as well I hope they
are well. She is one lucky woman to get a catch like you. Good luck in the future
as well.
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Well, she's the catch as far as I'm concerned. She just keeps getting better
looking every day. We have 3 beautiful little girls now. And life changes, as
does everybody's. The move to Australia for season #2 is going to cause a move
for my family as well.
lorenzo_lamas_live:
But a family that plays together, stays together.
Sweetheart_F99: Lorenzo, when is it that you will film your season in
Australia and do you know yet which locations?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
We're looking at 3 locations .. Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. And I'm told
that season #2 will start filming early June and that new shows will be on in
September.
lorenzo_lamas_live: But there are new shows airing currently through
the end of this month and into the beginning of next month. Then we'll save
the best shows for the May sweeps period.
manolis_varnassinger: lorenzo why do you choose to play in adventures
most do you like action and ecxitment
lorenzo_lamas_live: Very few actors have the luxuries of choosing roles, believe it or not. We're all typecast in the last successful thing that we've done, and The Immortal has been the best story and, I believe, concept, that has been presented to me since Renegade. And I really looked forward to working with the producers who have also produced the movie, Poltergeist.
dookiedude_is_i: WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO U LISTEN TO Mr. Lamas?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I listen to classic rock, mostly.
lorenzo_lamas_live: I really love Madonna's new album.
lorenzo_lamas_live: I like Lenny Kravitz.
sportsgirl_200020022001: Who is your childhood hero?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
James Bond.
Marty2634: Hello Lorenzo, What attracted you to the role you portray
in "The Immortal"?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
The conflict within the character. He would love to be involved with someone,
but he still suffers the loss of his wife 400 years ago.
lorenzo_lamas_live:
And there's another problem which is that if he DOES get involved with someone,
how are they going to cope with the fact that he's going to outlive her and
that she's going to grow old in front of him?
BUHDOKHAN: I thought that the funniest thing about Renegade was that
you were a fugitive but had long hair and a big Harley and hung out with a guy
in a huge yellow Hummer.....not exactly low profile. Great show though.
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I always thought that was pretty funny, too. But it's what we in the industry
call, "exercising the rights of creative license".
lorenzo_lamas_live: In other words, painting broad strokes that don't
sweat the details.
lipsmackingood2000: lorenzo do you still have your motorcycle and are
planning on going to milwaulkee for Harley's 100th. I hear it is going to be
better than the 90th. that one was great.
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Yes, I still have my Harley.
lorenzo_lamas_live: And if you'll supply me with an armored car, I'll
go there.
manolis_varnassinger: lorenzo whats your favourite sport
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I have a lot of diverse interests. It depends on what time of the year it is.
In the summer, I surf. In the winter, I snowboard.
lorenzo_lamas_live: And I guess you could say I ... train ... in martial
arts, all year round.
vanessa4749: Was Grease your first movie?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Yes.
evilkelly12000: LORENZO DO YOUSTILL HAVE THAT NICE LONG HAIR???
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Yeah, I do.
lorenzo_lamas_live: I tried cutting it last year but I didn't get any
work, so I grew it again.
mmka1: Do you know if the writers plan to let Rafael find his son?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
It's daughter. Actually, yeah. He found his daughter last year at the end of
the season. I guess the episode is airing, coming up. But it's only the beginning
of their resolution because the daughter has grown up under the influence of
demons.
SEZARIN: what is your nick name?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
My nickname? I had one in high school. They just called me L. The letter, L.
Sweetheart_F99: Have you ever been to Australia before?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
No, I haven't.
lorenzo_lamas_live: But I hear that when you flush the toilet, it goes
in the other direction.
lorenzo_lamas_live: And our summer is their winter and so on and so forth.
lorenzo_lamas_live: Oh, they drive on the left side of the street too
so you have to look the other way when you step off the curb.
gothicgirl14240: are those tattoos you had in renegade real?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Yes.
lorenzo_lamas_live: And when I got my tattoos, Jane Wyman who I starred
with in Falcon Crest, thought I had popped a cap! She didn't know how an actor
could possibly think of getting a tattoo! Back in the 70s and 80s, actors didn't
do that. And I knew Sean Connery had tattoos and they just covered them up with
make-up, so why couldn't I do it?
lorenzo_lamas_live: And you know, they had to use
tan-colored shoe polish in a spray in the early 80s to cover it up! They finally
developed this camouflage make-up that was better, waterproof. But it still
got all over those damn sheets. And all over the actresses that I did the scenes
with, too! I had to tell the person I was doing a scene with ... When we hug,
try not to touch my shoulder or back! It made for some interesting love scenes!
Claudia_1967: I loved you in Falcon Crest. The role of Lance Cumson was
one of my favorites. Would you ever consider doing a reunion?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I think that would be fun.
lorenzo_lamas_live: To show up back at the vineyards with long hair and
a Harley. "What happened to Lance?????
HUNTMR69: How did you land that role on Renegade?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I was asked to come in and meet with the creator. We sat down and he pitched
the idea and I couldn't believe I was sitting there in a famous producer's office
and he's pitching me the story! I was like the only one he was interested in
playing the role, which was quite a compliment to me and quite a chance for
him to take because I had never starred in a tv series all by myself.
lorenzo_lamas_live:
He was taking a chance with me and I will always be indebted to him for that.
Marty2634: which actors and actresses have you most enjoyed working with
up to this point in your career?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I think I had the most fun with Ana Alicia in Falcon Crest. We played husband/wife
for about 4-5 years on that show. We were really good friends. And as far as
guys go, it's Branscombe Richmond. He was Bobby on Renegade, my Indian cohort.
manolis_varnassinger: did you ever injured while you were makin a dangerous
scene in the show or that kind of thing you manage to avoid it
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Yeah. I almost burned my hair off in a movie I did. "Blood for Blood"
lorenzo_lamas_live: And I was running down a row of gasoline cans. They
were 55 gallon drums of gas. The special effects guy lit them up a little too
early. Instead of having explosions go on behind me, they went on around me
... and I was a little crispy! I had a pretty severe burn on my arm and had
to finish the movie with this flesh covered gauze which was really painful!
I had no protection because I had a short-sleeved shirt on and had to have it
on to finish the movie. It wasn't that fun.
lorenzo_lamas_live: My eyebrows were gone so they had to paint them on.
They actually glued false hair on my eyebrows.
superchickenlittle: Do you have a preferece in materials that appeal more to
you than others
lorenzo_lamas_live: Lately, I've really enjoyed doing humor and would
love to do another sitcom. I guest-starred on a couple of episodes of "Dear
John" about 4-5 years ago.
kj81008: hi, what is your favorite thing to do?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Fly airplanes.
lorenzo_lamas_live: I lease one.
gothicgirl14240: did you like working with stephen j cannell?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Yeah. I especially liked it when he came down to play Dutch Dixon. Here he is,
this multi-millionaire creator and all he wants to do is to sit in this little
trailer and be a little actor. We used to do fight scenes together. We'd punch
each other out. I didn't want to hit him though, you don't want to hit your
producer!!!!!!
djtenn2000: With the possibility of a strike, do you think that it will
affect your working in future projects?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I hope not.
Caitlin_36: Branscombe Richmond was a favorite of mine. Do you know what
he is doing now?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
He's got a country band and is playing all over the world.
scolesrus: WIth all of the things going on with crow and benderes what
do you do for protection against wacked out fans
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Well ....... I just don't pay attention to all that stuff. I don't have bodyguards
around me and I don't draw attention to myself. I'm RARELY recognized because
I don't draw attention.
manolis_varnassinger: your first big gig came in the movie grease what
do you remember most of making that lengedary movie
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Probably how surreal the whole experience was. I'd just been out of high school
for a year and a half and there I was on the set of this big Paramount movie
with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven.
faith00967700: what do your daughters think about you being on tv and
do you allow them to watch your new show
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Yeah. The 3 year old can watch it, Alexandra. Because it's really not that scary.
Kids can watch it. It's suspenseful, but that's the maturity of adult scary
things.
darwin25x: did you keep the bike from renegade
lorenzo_lamas_live:
It was my bike to begin with.
Sweetheart_F99: Lorenzo...Have you thought about having your own sitcom?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Ala Tom Selleck?
lorenzo_lamas_live: No.
AsianSnowMonkey: what is your favorite animal and do you own one?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
My favorite animal is a Bengal Tiger.
lorenzo_lamas_live: I have one on my arm, but I don't own one.
lorenzo_lamas_live: Well, I wouldn't wear a tux to a matinee at the multiplex.
But I would consider wearing jeans to a formal event. So ... I guess it depends
on where you're going.
manolis_varnassinger: how much time does it usually take to make all
the make up
lorenzo_lamas_live:
It's about 45 minutes a tattoo.
lorenzo_lamas_live: It's no fun.
lorenzo_lamas_live: So most of the roles that I've played, I've just
gone with ... well, we're just going back to that dramatic license. "Wait, didn't
Lorenzo have those tattoos in that other movie when he was playing that other
guy?"
Marty2634: Hello Lorenzo, Will you be doing Acting in any new movies
in the future?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I hope so. I'm trying to get a movie that I'm producing off the ground before
I go to Australia. It's a chase movie using airplanes. The idea in a nutshell
is that I've got to get back to my wife who's been held hostage, in time before
they kill her. It's a chase movie, so I'm up against the clock. And the chases
are in airplanes.
SEZARIN: mr. lamas are you close with your family
lorenzo_lamas_live:
The closest.
lorenzo_lamas_live: My wife knows my every move.
scolesrus: how old are you now
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Oh, thanks!
lorenzo_lamas_live: I think we'll end it at that!!!!!!!
mialma1592: How many tattoo's do you have on you????????
lorenzo_lamas_live: Five.
gentlelady10: You are a handsome man outside, What are you like inside?
lorenzo_lamas_live: I'm a hideous human being with NO regard for personal
life!!!!!!!!!!
gothicgirl14240: do you like doing fight scenes the best
lorenzo_lamas_live:
They're hard. Fight scenes aren't a walk in the park. I think I prefer a good
dramatic scene.
Caitlin_36: Have you ever thought about having your tattoos removed?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Yeah.
lorenzo_lamas_live: But what happens is that to remove them, it leaves
a scar that sometimes is worse than the tattoo you have. So I guess I've resigned
myself to just keeping them. And Shawna, my wife, doesn't mind. They're not
ugly. So she doesn't mind and she sees them more than I do anyway.
Matt: What do you think about movies coming out now adays .. better or
worse than 10 years ago?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Oh .... better. Everything's getting better because there's more choice. Foreign
films are getting more advertising which is getting more people to see them.
Big budget movies are getting more special effects which are making it more
amazing to watch what's up on the screen. It's a very exciting time for motion
pictures.
manolis_varnassinger: are you feeling excauted after you finish an epsiode
of you find the whole experience of making immortal enjoyable
lorenzo_lamas_live:
You know, I have to do 22 episodes in a period of 6 months. I can't afford to
listen to my body in terms of what it feels like after an episode. I have to
go all the way through all 22. Then ...I go to the hospital because that's how
I feel. But I can't even get sick during an episode of filming because there's
about 110 people waiting for me to show up every day!
SEZARIN: lorenzo do you believe in luck or you make your own destiny?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I believe in both.
lorenzo_lamas_live: I think there's a divine plan for all of us.
lorenzo_lamas_live: But you must make some decisions in order to insure
that when luck strikes, you're ready to act.
Marty2634: Hello Lorenzo, What did you think of Billy Crystal's impression
of your father "Fernando Lamas"?
lorenzo_lamas_live:
I thought it was pretty good, actually.
lorenzo_lamas_live: It was a little elaborate in terms of how he presented
my father like a pompous, not very bright person. My father was very intelligent,
he spoke 5 languages.
lorenzo_lamas_live: But he did capture that essence of Hollywood movie
star. And I was actually grateful to Billy because he introduced my father to
a whole generation of people who most likely wouldn't have known who he was.
hoopty1_99: What are your expectations for your future and your family's
lorenzo_lamas_live:
Well, I expect to work, you know, for a while longer. But again, that's in God's
plans. That has to be in God's plans. I hope to live long enough to see my children
marry and have children of their own.
lorenzo_lamas_live: And I want to buy a jet.
y_chat_diva: Thank you so much for joining us!
lorenzo_lamas_live:
It was really fun!
lorenzo_lamas_live: Thank YOU!
